WARMING UP

by Robert Bekkers

Before playing music, or even before working on new techniques, always warm up. Warm muscles will dramatically improve the efficiency of your practice. In fact it is useless to practice anything with cold hands. Take this very seriously! Don't waste your time!
And always remember: Take it nice and slow, concentrate on producing clear notes. We want to work on good technique.

Here's one is for very cold hands, and a very efficient training for independence of the fingers: Leave all fingers on the fretboard and move them one by one. Otherwise it can't be called an exercise.

You can also move it back up: More tricky. Pay attention to your pinky, or it will be lifted together with the ring finger. Repeat on different positions.

Following an exercise for the right hand. When played carefully, it also stimulates your left hand timing and therefor clarity of your playing. Also use: i-a, m-a and combinations with your right hand pinky once you are warmed up. -Training your pinky will support the ring finger. Try to apply different keys.

And remember:

Use your ears: A good sound is produced through good technique!.
